Video – Understanding the story behind Duval’s aging school buildings

Sept. 11, 2020 – With crumbling walls and failing air condition systems, school buildings in Duval County need serious help.

How did we get here?

View the video above to better understand how multiple factors —  such as state funding cuts since the 2008 recession — led to this issue; and the connection between better facilities and student achievement.

The video also provides information about the half-cent sales tax referendum.

On Nov. 3, voters will decide whether to provide funding to upgrade schools through repairs and renovations that will keep schools safe, improve technology, replace existing schools, or build new ones. The ballot authorizes a half-penny sales tax over the next 15 years.
