Dec. 21, 2023 – Enrollment season begins January, and Team Duval is working to support families through the upcoming School Showcase Saturday events.
School Showcase Saturdays are designed to help families make the best enrollment decisions for their child for the 2024-25 school year. This year, there will be two events:
- Saturday, Jan. 27 – All middle and high schools will be open.
- Saturday, Feb. 3 – All elementary schools will be open.
Families will have the opportunity to visit schools on those designated Saturdays, talk with school staff and leaders, and tour the campus. On both Saturdays, school tours are scheduled for 9 AM, 10:45 AM, 12:30 PM, and 2 PM.
District leaders say this is important for families so they can make informed enrollment decisions. Kindergarten enrollment opens on Jan. 1. Also becoming available on Jan.1, are applications for Magnet, Special Transfer Option (STO), and VPK schools.
While the events are still a few weeks away, there are many things families can do to prepare.
Become familiar with enrollment process – Families can visit www.duvalschools.org/enroll to review the five easy steps to enroll their child in their neighborhood school.
Become familiar with the school choice process – Team Duval is a choice district. Once children are enrolled in their neighborhood school and parents have set up a linked parent account, families can explore and apply for schools outside of their child’s neighborhood schools. These include Magnet schools, Special Transfer Option schools, and VPK programs. The standard application window for this begins Jan. 1 and closes the last day of February.
We recommend families watch the “School Choice Countdown to the Lottery” video to learn more about the application process. (Note: the video will require entering name and email before playing.)
Start researching now – Visit www.duvalschools.org/schoolshowcase to start preparing for School Showcase Saturday and learn about various educational options. You can search schools based on a specific program or theme such as dual language, STEM, visual arts, or career and technical education.
Make sure you have a Linked Parent Account – This is essential because the VPK, Magnet, and Special Transfer option applications are only available if the parent/guardian has a parent account that is linked to their student. Visit www.duvalschools.org/parentaccount for a step-by-step guide to creating a parent account and linking it to your student.
