New window opens for applications to magnet/STO schools for 2022-23 school year

May 5, 2022 – Applications for magnet and Special Transfer Option (STO) schools are now available in the Parent/Guardian Focus account.

These applications are through the Controlled Open Enrollment (COE) process which allows parents to apply for a school outside of the standard application window that:

  • Still has available seats.
  • Is outside their child’s attendance-area school.

To see what schools have available seats, parents can visit the Open Seats webpage on the district’s website.

When parents log into their account, they’ll notice that the applications no longer say “late applications.” Instead they will see “COE magnet application” and “COE special transfer option application.”

Families with questions about the applications or any school-choice related concern can contact School Choice specialists in two ways.

Note – Families who completed an on-time application during the standard application window (Jan. 1 – Feb. 28) are now receiving notifications of whether they’ve been accepted into one of their selected schools or have been waitlisted. If you applied during the on-time application window and have not received your notification letter, please check your spam or junk mail.

Waitlisted families can apply to another school using the Controlled Open Enrollment application process for any school that has an open seat. However, if a student is not accepted into their school selection, they will need to attend their attendance-area school on the first day of school.
